We all face setbacks and challenges when trying to achieve our goals. Sometimes these are physical (injuries, lack of equipment, etc.) and sometimes they’re psychological (doubt, lack of motivation, the deliciousness of burgers and chips).
All these setbacks can stack up and make your goals seem impossible to achieve, but here are five simple tips to help you stay on track.
1. Set small goals.
This doesn’t mean you should set the bar any lower. Simply break your goals up into smaller goals that you can achieve on the way to reaching your target. These can always be reworked and adjusted.
The sense of achievement you get from ticking off these minor milestones will increase your motivation and help you stay focused on the bigger picture. As they say – Rome wasn’t built in a day!
2. Ask for advice.
If you’re not sure about a certain exercise, food or technique, ask someone! Getting a different point of view, or reinforcing your own, can help alleviate doubts and bring you closer to your goal.
We never stop learning, and we should never stop aiming to do things better.
3. Put in the work!
This one seems obvious, but it’s easy to get distracted by everything else that goes into getting to where you want to be.
However simple the task is, every little bit helps.
4. Be patient.
Remember that reaching your ultimate goal takes time. As long as you’re moving forward, any point along the journey is better than being stuck in the car park!
5. Be accountable.
We’re all ultimately accountable to ourselves, but it helps to have someone to spur you on when you’re not feeling motivated.
Find someone to share your journey with, and you will always have someone to turn to for support and motivation. This can be anyone – your trainer, a friend, colleague or family member.
Remember, we’re always here for support, advice, or just to exchange ideas if you ever want to get in touch.
Be Dynamic.
